Women’s Golf Holds One Stroke Lead at GolfRank Invitational

Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. – Lynn University's women's golf team holds a one-stroke advantage after the conclusion of the first day of action at the GolfRank Invitational, hosted by Nova Southeastern. Jenny Ayala is tied for first overall while Kristina Ortiz is in a tie for third.

  • Lynn holds a one-stroke lead (297) with Florida Southern (298), Nova Southeastern (299), and Keiser University (303) all within six-strokes of the Fighting Knights. Palm Beach Atlantic finished the day shooting 331 as a team.
  • Currently sitting in a tie for first place is Ayala, who shot par (72) after the first 18 holes. She is tied with Florida Southern's Tori Higgins.
  • Shooting a one-over par 73, is Ortiz.  She is tied for third heading into the second day of competition.
  • Finishing the day two over par (74) is Cristina Gutierrez, who ended the first 18 holes tied for fifth place.   
  • In a seven-way tie for seventh place is Jennifer Prendergast, shooting three over par for a 75 total.
  • Samantha Barber shot a 77 on the day, while Lucia Jimenez Martin put together a 79.


  • This is the first time this season the Fighting Knights have led in a tournament.
  • It is the second consecutive tournament where Ayala has held the overall lead after the first day of competition.

The Fighting Knights now look to keep their lead on the final day of the GolfRank Invitational beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 25, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
