St. Augustine, Fla. – The 2017 women's golf season is underway with Lynn University in sixth place out of 18 teams after the first round of the World Golf Invitational.  Samantha Barber is within the top-10 .

  • Lynn's opening round 306 puts it just outside the top-five, with Barry (289) holding the top position ahead of Florida Tech (290), Nova Southeastern (296), Saint Leo (297) and Shorter (304).
  • Samantha Barber is tied for ninth with a one-over par 72.
  • Krissy Ortiz and newcomer Helen Kreuzer and one stroke apart from each other with rounds of 76 and 77.
  • Jenny Ayala and Cristina Gutierrez each fired scores of 80.
  • Lucia Jimenez Martin tied for 17th with a round of 76, playing separate from the team.


  • Barber's 73 was one stroke from tying her season-low.
  • Lynn has won this event twice in its history, 2014 & 2015.  In both victories started Lynn's run towards national championships.

The Fighting Knights are back on the course for the final round of the World Golf Invitational on Monday, Feb. 6.
