Ayala Ties for Second, Women’s Golf Third at Barry Invite

Miami Lakes, Fla. – Lynn University's women's golf team logged its best 54-hole score of the season to finish third overall at the Barry Women's Invitational.  Jenny Ayala tied for the second-lowest score in program history for her fifth top-10 finish of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Lynn shot 299 as a team to finish with a 54-hole score of 886 but could not catch champion Rollins (871).  Host Barry moved into second (881) while Nova Southeastern (892) and Keiser (894) were able to move into the top-five.
  • Ayala posted a second consecutive round of 73 for a 216 total, two shots back of medalist Tilda Larsson of Barry (214).
  • Barber tied for 18th with a two-day score of 222.
  • Helen Kreuzer and Kristina Ortiz were within one stroke of each other, 224 and 225, to tie for 24th and 27th, while Lucia Jimenez Martin ended the tournament with a score of 235.
  • Playing separate from the team, Cristina Gutierrez and Jennifer Prendergast logged scores of 246 and 251, respectively.

BEYOND THE SCORECARD:

  • Ayala tied her season and career-low 54-hole score and logged her first top-10 finish since the fall semester.
  • Her 216 also tied for the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history along with Jessica Bradley (2015) and Samantha Smolen (2014).
  • Lynn's 886 is a 54-hole season-best team score.
  • Ayala earned her fifth top-10 finish of the season, giving her 12 for her career, which ties her for ninth in school history (Lis Whitehouse).
  • The senior from Bogota, Colombia, tied for the field lead, along with Kreuzer, in par 3 scoring (-2) and total pars (44).
  • Ortiz was third in par 4 scoring (E).
  • The Fighting Knights finished in the top-four in seven of its eight regular season tournaments.
