Women’s Golf Set for NCAA Tournament Competition

Indianapolis, Ind. - Lynn University's women's golf team was selected for the NCAA Division II Tournament earlier this week and is set to depart for Germantown, Tenn., for the South Regional on Saturday.  The Fighting Knights compete Monday-Wednesday, May 7-9 at the Germantown Country Club.

This is the seventh consecutive NCAA appearance, and 16th overall, for the women's golf program.  Lynn is a three-time NCAA champion, having won in 1997, 2013 and 2014.  The Blue and White has not advanced to the national championship since 2015 when they finished third.  Last year Lynn took ninth place at the South Regional.

The Fighting Knights have a balanced starting five but Jenny Ayala and Kristina Ortiz have heated up at the end of the season.  Both golfers finished within the top-five at the Sunshine State Conference Tournament and Ortiz has placed in the top-five in each of her last two tournaments.

Helen Kreuzer has also logged consecutive top-10 finishes while Matilda Wahren picked up her second top-10 finish of the season at the SSC Championship.  Additionally, Samantha Barber and Ayala are the only two remaining members of the Fighting Knights to have reached the NCAA National Championship in 2015.

The top three teams, along with the top three individuals not associated with a qualifying team, will advance to the national championship, held May 16-19 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.  Lynn is familiar with the championship course having taken part in the NCAA DII National Preview in late-September where they finished tied for sixth.
