Columbus, Ga.- Lynn University's women's soccer team (0-1) lost, 2-0, to No. 5 Columbus State (1-0) in the season opener on Friday night. The Fighting Knights didn't just look like a whole new team on the pitch, they were. Ten of Lynn's starters made their first career appearances donning blue and white in the season opener.
Columbus State took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when Olivia Jarrell scored unassisted from 25 yards out to beat out Lynn's goalkeeper Alexa Downie. Less than two minutes later Jarrell scored again, this time on an assist from Nicole Corcione for a 2-0 Cougars lead.
Downie played a full 90 minutes for the Fighting Knights allowing two goals against while making five saves in the loss. Donish Cole made her first career appearance and led the team with three shots, one on goal. CSU edged Lynn in corner kicks 7-2. Maylyn Parsons earned the win in net allowing no goals and making three saves.
