BOCA RATON, Fla. – After a two-hour lightning delay and a four-goal deficit in the second half, things were looking glim for Lynn University's women's soccer team on Sunday night at Bobby Campbell Stadium. Brianna Lemerise then sparked a three-goal swing for Lynn to bring the game within one, but the home team ultimately fell to Division I Southeast Missouri St., 5-3.
With two goals in the first half and two quick goals at the onset of the second period, the Redhawks (3-3-1) found themselves in control of the game with a 4-0 lead.
In the 65th minute, Donish Cole found Lemerise at the top of the box, who broke free from her mark and hit the back of the net. The attacking duo kept the pressure on and it paid off five minutes later as Lemerise stole the ball from a defender inside the box and buried it past the keeper.
Lynn (0-3-1) capitalized again in the 85th minute to cut the score to 4-3. Left back Emily Weisberg played a well-lofted free kick into the center of the box. A Redhawk defender skied above the pack to connect, but her header was sent backwards over the keeper and into her own net.
Angie Mann converted a penalty kick in the 88th to complete the hat trick and secure the win for the visiting squad.
The Blue & White return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 16, for a 7 p.m. contest at Palm Beach Atlantic. Fans can watch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com and receive in-game updates by following @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.
