Swimming’s Berraud-Galea Places Second at Open Water Nationals

Lawrence, Kan. – The start of the Lynn University swimming season is still a month away but junior standout Catalina Berraud-Galea already appears in prime form as she took second place overall on Saturday at the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Collegiate Open Water Championship.

As a top-five finisher, Berraud-Galea earns a spot at the 2018 USA Swimming 5K Open Water Championships on Castaic Lake, near Santa Clarita, Calif.

The University of Kansas hosted the event for the second-straight year at Lone Star Lake, consisting of a two-loop swim totaling 5,000 meters (3.1 miles).

In a field of 53 female competitors hailing primarily from NCAA Division I institutions, Berraud-Galea took second place with a time of 1:04:47.39. Bryn Hadley out of Southern Illinois was crowned champion with a time of 1:04:39.22.

Kansas finished first as a team with 18 points, led by individual fourth and fifth place finishes. Rice University and the University of Missouri rounded out the top three teams, respectively.

The Fighting Knights open up the 2017-18 swimming campaign on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Saint Leo.
