Melbourne, Fla. – Lynn University women's swimmers Sarah Hughes and Catalina Berraud-Galea were honored as All-Sunshine State Conference selections, as announced on Thursday. Hughes becomes the fourth swimmer in program history to garner First Team recognition while Berraud-Galea is the second to become a three-time honoree.
A junior out of Southampton, England, Hughes earned Second Team recognition in 2017. She won a silver medal at the 2018 SSC Championship in the 400 individual medley and a bronze in the 200 breaststroke. Hughes also qualified for her second NCAA Division II National Championship and will compete in the 200 & 400 IM and 100 & 200 breaststroke.
Berruad-Galea has now been named a Second Team selection twice (2016 & 2018) and was an honorable mention in 2017. Only Thalie Carmigniani (2013-16) has been named to more All-SSC teams for the Lynn swimming program. Additionally, Berraud-Galea moved into third place in program history with five career medals after winning her second career 1650 freestyle gold and first 500 free bronze. She also qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championship, her third appearance, and will participate in the 1650, 1000 and 500 freestyle events.
This marks the fourth consecutive year Lynn has posted multiple All-SSC selections and gives the Fighting Knights at least one honoree every season since the program's inception in 2012-13. Carmigniani is the only swimmer in program history to be recognized all four years. Berraud-Galea is second with three selections followed by Rebecca Matthews and Hughes with two. Matthews was a two-time First Team and Swimmer of the Year recipient and owns the programs three individual national championships (2015 – 100 & 200 breaststroke; 2016 – 200 breaststroke).
