Berraud-Galea Takes 18th at USA Open Water Championship

Tempe, Ariz. - Lynn University women's swimmer Catalina Berraud-Galea placed 18th overall at the 2018 USA Swimming 5k Open Water Championship on Sunday afternoon.  The Fighting Knights standout qualified after placing second at the College Swimming Coaches Association National Collegiate Open Water Championship.

Berraud-Galea swam a time of 1:01:47.5 in the 5k at Tempe Town Lake, just over three minutes behind the top finisher, Erica Sullivan, at 58:18.168.  She finished ahead of more than half of the 46 competitors.

The junior out of Toay, La Pampa, Argentina, is the first swimmer in program history to compete in the USA Swimming Open Water Championship.  This accomplishment adds to a season in which she qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championship for the third consecutive year, was named the NCAA DII Elite 90 winner for swimming, garnered All-Sunshine State Conference and collected a gold medal at the SSC Championship in the 1650 freetyle.

Lynn placed fifth at the SSC Championship and welcomes back 12 letterwinners, including All-SSC swimmers Sarah Hughes and Berraud-Galea.  For more information, check out LynnFightingKnights.com.
