Lawrence, Kans. – Lynn University swimmer Catalina Berraud-Galea posted a personal-best 5k open water time to place sixth at the Third Annual College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Collegiate Open Water Championship. This is the second consecutive year the senior swimmer has reached the podium.
The Toay, La Pampa, Argentina, native swam a time of 1:03.16.64 in a mad dash to the finish line. Berraud-Galea was 10 seconds off the winner, Audrey Guyett of Missouri, and five seconds from finishing in the top-five. The top-five advance to the USA Swimming 5K Open Water Championship.
Berraud-Galea topped her time from last year (1:04:47.39) by over a minute in a field of 71 competitors, mostly from the Division I level. She was first among nine Division II participants.
Missouri claimed first place as a team with seven points, followed by Rice (17) and host Kansas (40).
The Fighting Knights open up the 2018-19 swimming campaign on Friday, Oct. 5, at the Shark Invite.
