Hughes Named SSC Swimmer of the Week

Melbourne, Fla. – Lynn University women's swimmer Sarah Hughes has been named the Sunshine State Conference Swimmer of the Week, as announced on Monday.  Hughes is coming off a weekend in which she swam two NCAA B cut times, won two events and helped the Fighting Knights to a second place finish at the SCAD Invitational.

The Southampton, England, native earns her second career weekly SSC honor after posting NCAA B cut times in both the 400 individual medley and 200 breaststroke and was the second leg in the 400 medley relay team that set a school record.

Hughes was seeded fifth after the morning preliminaries in the 400 IM but came back in the evening to post her fastest time of the season, and second fastest of her career, to win with a time of 4:24.44.

She led from start to finish in the 200 breaststroke, earning the top seed following the morning swim and carrying her dominance into the evening where she tapped the wall in 2:18.54.  This was also the second-fastest time of her career.

Hughes played a huge role in Lynn's 400 MR squad.  Consisting of Karolina Smylek, Clara Monges and Laia Coma, Hughes swam the second leg of a program-record time of 3:48.94 to finish second overall.

She started the invite with a third-place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:07.19.  Hughes also claimed third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.62.  All four individual event times were season-bests for Hughes.  She also competed in the 200 medley relay (1:46.92) and the 200 free relay (1:39.00).

The Fighting Knights are back in the pool on Wednesday, Dec. 19, when they host Keiser at 10 a.m. at the McCusker Pool Complex.  For more information check out
