BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 5th-ranked Lynn University women's tennis team began the 2015 season with a demanding 9-0 sweep over St. Thomas. As a team the Fighting Knights did not drop a single set in the first contest of the year.
The Fighting Knights cruised to a 3-0 advantage after doubles play, only dropping one game in the three bouts. The third flight duo of Kim Preszlowski and Martina Gledacheva took an easy 8-0 decision for the first point of the season. Rosalie Willig and Grace Mpassy were second to finish, wining 8-1 in the top spot. Valentine Confalonieri and Carolina Cuevas concluded doubles action with an 8-0 sweep of Cassandra Lemieux and Victoria Slavina.
20th-ranked Willig put Lynn one match away from the win with a 6-0, 6-1 rout of Lemieux in the second flight. Confalonieri clinched the season-opening victory with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win over Demitrova in the top slot. Mpassy rounded out the first half of singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 debut over V. Slavina.
In the bottom draw Cuevas breezed to an 8-1 decision in her first singles bout. Gledacheva was also victorious in her singles debut, winning 8-3 versus K. Slavina in the four spot. The sweep was completed with Jane's 8-4 win over Gonzalez.
