West Palm Beach, Fla. – Lynn University's fifth-ranked women's tennis team continued their perfect season with a 9-0 sweep over Northwood University on Friday. With the victory the Fighting Knights improve to 2-0 on the season, with both wins coming by shutout.
In doubles play the third court, where Martina Gledacheva and Alina Jane squared off with Livia Toth and Lola Garcia, was the first contest to end with Lynn's duo cruising to an 8-2 victory. Playing at the top flight, Rosalie Willig and Grace Mpassy topped Adelaide Wood and Valentina Souki 8-2. The final doubles duel to finish was Valentine Confalonieri and Carolina Cuevas's, who won a tight 8-6 contest in the second spot over Rocia Merlo and Matilde Thibadult.
20th-ranked Willig earned the first point of singles action in the second slot with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Souki. On the main court, Confalonieri showed why she is the top-ranked tennis player in Division II with a 6-0, 6-2 rout of Wood to clinch the victory for Lynn. Rounding out the top-three, Mpassy defeated Thibadult 6-4, 6-2.
Starting her bout before the match was decided, Gledacheva was the fifth Fighting Knight to finish with a 6-4, 6-1 result over Merlo. Finishing before Gledacheva, Jane topped Toth in an eight game pro set 8-5 on court five. The afternoon concluded with an 8-2 victory for Cuevas at court six.
