BOCA RATON, Fla- Lynn University's sixth-ranked women's tennis program blanked the 44th-ranked Panthers of Florida Tech, 9-0, in Sunshine State Conference play on Tuesday afternoon. The Fighting Knights improve to 15-2 overall and 4-2 in league action while FIT falls to 12-7 and 1-3.
No. 15 Valentine Confalonieiri and Rosalie Willig defeated Florida Tech's top duo Kayla Hergott and Erin Egoroff, 8-2. Martina Gledacheva and Gracy Mpassy also had an 8-2 victory, defeating Mariana Castanieras and Meritt Rabson at the bottom of the doubles lineup. Alina Jane and Carolina Cuevas sealed the 3-0 doubles sweep taking down Natasa Vukovic and Chloe Chanley in a hard-fought battler, 9-8.
Mpassy was the first to finish in singles play cursing to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jessica Widmark at the No. 6 spot. Gledacheva's 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles secured Lynn's victory over the Panthers. No. 2 Confalonieiri took down Hergott, FIT's top singles player, 6-1, 6-2, for a 6-0 Fighting Knights lead.
26th-ranked Willig defeated Vukovic in consecutive sets of 6-2 and Jane's 6-1, 6-3 win over Castanieras tallied Lynn's eighth point. Cuevas finished off the singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Chanley at No. 3 singles.
Lynn improves to 16-0 all-time against the Panthers and will travel south to take on rival-Barry on Thursday, April 2 for a 3 pm match.
