BOCA RATON, Fla.- Lynn University's sixth-ranked women's tennis team defeated Florida Southern, 9-0, at the Perper Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon. The Fighting Knights improve to 16-3 overall and finish the Sunshine State Conference regular season 5-3. The win marks the 30th time in program history the Blue & White has beaten the Mocs while never once losing to FSC and is Lynn's ninth shutout of the season.
Martina Gledacheva and Grace Mpassy made quick work of Cassie Eldredge and Shannon Griffin at the No. 3 spot with a 8-1 win scoring Lynn's first point. Fifteenth-ranked Valentine Confalonieri and Rosalie Willig put away Miroslava Mensikova and Nina Vucevic with a 8-2 win at the top of the lineup and Carolina Cuevas and Alina Jane completed the sweep defeating Katie Taylor-Doran and Katie Stanford, 8-2 at the middle of the lineup.
Mpassy cruised to a victory at the bottom of the Fighting Knights singles lineup with 6-0 victories over Griffin at No. 6 singles putting Lynn within one point from clinching victory. Gledacheva took down Eldredge 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles sealing the Fighting Knights win while Jane won 6-0, 6-1, at the four-spot for a 6-0 Lynn lead.
Second-ranked Confalonieri had a pair of 6-3 sets to defeat Mensikova at the top of the lineup while No. 26 Willig won 6-3, 6-2, over Vucevic for an 8-0 Lynn lead. Cuevas completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Taylor-Doran at the No. 3 spot helping the Blue & White improve to 30-0 all-time against the Mocs.
