Pensacola, Fla. – Lynn University's women's tennis team advanced both of its doubles pairings into the USTA/ITA South Region semifinals on Saturday afternoon, hosted by the University of West Florida.
The third-seeded squad of Rosalie Willig and Diana Bogolii pushed past UWF's Nina Bubelova and Katarina Dikosavljevic in the quarterfinals with an 8-6 triumph. On the other side of the bracket, Grace Mpassy and Martina Gledacheva won by default to secure a spot in the other semifinal match.
Bogolii and Willig will square off against Nova Southeastern's Sabrina Kierberg and Petra Jurova, while Mpassy and Gledacheva find Irina Constantinide and Nastassia Rubel, also from Nova. With two wins, an all-Lynn final would take place Sunday evening.
Bogolii will have a busy day tomorrow as she also fought her way to the semifinals of the singles tournament. In her third-round match, Bogolii dropped the first set to Bea Morales (Valdosta St.) before rallying for a 6-7, 6-2, 11-9 super-tiebreak victory. She then got through to the semis after Barry's Emma Onila retired (6-1, 4-0).
Gledacheva made it to the quarterfinals of the singles bracket after downing Jurova (7-5, 6-4) but was knocked out by Sanit Leo's Natalia Siediska (6-2, 6-0). Willig dropped her final singles matchup 6-2, 6-4 to Marine Beugre-Guyot (Saint Leo).
Bogolii's singles semifinal kicks off the action tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. while the entire Lynn contingent will look to continue their doubles journey starting at 1 p.m.
