Sumter, S.C. – Rosalie Willig and Diana Bogolii capped off a historic run for the Lynn University women's tennis team on Sunday, becoming the first doubles pair in program history to win the 'Super Bowl' at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships.
The Fighting Knights defeated ASA College Miami's Megane Bianco and Macarena Olivares in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) in the title match on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the duo earns a bid to the 2015 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Nov. 12-15 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., where they will enter a 20-team draw featuring 19 Division I opponents.
"We are super happy that we have the chance to represent Lynn University at the Division I National Championship," Bogolii and Willig said. "Overall, we were pleased with our teamwork and are proud of our performance this weekend."
The Lynn tandem went 5-0 at the four-day tournament this weekend without dropping a set to an opponent.
"We are so proud of Diana and Rosie; the way they played with such composure and skill," head coach Mike Perez said. "It is a much deserved accomplishment after defeating such high-quality opponents."
Lynn's Valentine Confalonieri won the Super Bowl singles draw the past two years, marking three consecutive years the Fighting Knights have produced a Super Bowl champion.
