Flushing, N.Y. – Lynn University women's tennis players Rosalie Willig and Diana Bogolii had their current reign of dominance halted on Thursday at the 2015 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, hosted at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The doubles duo won the first set in both of their matches, but were unable to complete the underdog victory against either top-notch opponent.
After winning the National Small College Championships in October, the Lynn pair earned a bid to this weekend's NIIC's, consisting of the top Division I programs in the country.
In the opening round, Willig and Bogolii claimed the first set over Dartmouth College's Kristina Mathis and Taylor Ng, but were unable to hold off their opponents in a 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), 10-8 defeat.
Shortly after, the Fighting Knights took on TCU's Seda Arantekin and Caroline Wegner in the consolation bracket, getting off to another strong start with a first-set triumph. The Horned Frogs bounced back however to knock out the Fighting Knights in a 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 decision.
"Dartmouth and TCU played some amazing tennis today," head coach Mike Perez said. "Rosie and Diana stood up and had their chances. We are all proud of their effort and look forward to the spring season."
The pursuit of the women's tennis' seventh national championship begins on Feb. 4 when the Fighting Knights host St. Thomas at 5 p.m. Fans can learn more about the team by following @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.
