Women’s Tennis Blazes Past Valdosta St.

Valdosta, Ga. – Lynn University's fifth-ranked women's tennis team kept the home team off the scoreboard on Friday as the Fighting Knights opened up the weekend with a 5-0 triumph over the 15th-ranked Valdosta St. Blazers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Victories for Lynn in all three doubles matches put Valdosta St. in a hole early. 
  • The top-ranked tandem of Rosalie Willig and Diana Bogolii breezed past the Blazers at No. 1 doubles, 8-1.
  • With Grace Mpassy and Carolina Cuevas at No. 2, and Martina Gledacheva and Alina Jane at No. 3, Lynn posted 8-4 wins in the final two doubles contests.
  • The Blue & White needed little time to close out the sweep, earning straight-set singles victories at No. 1 and No. 3 to end the match.
  • Eighth-ranked Bogolli handled VSU's only ranked singles player, No. 22 Bea Morales Hernandez, with a 6-3, 6-1 decision at the top flight.
  • After a 6-4 win in the first set, Mpassy blanked VSU in the second set to bring home the win.
  • Willig, Cuevas, Gledacheva, and Jane each won their respective first set before the match was called.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • All three of Lynn's victories this season have been sweeps.
