Willig Clinches Women’s Tennis Upset over No. 2 Barry

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Junior Rosalie Willig battled out a three-set singles victory with the match tied at 4-4 to give the fifth-ranked Lynn University women's tennis team a crucial Sunshine State Conference victory over second-ranked Barry University in the team's regular-season finale on Saturday.

  • Barry's double dose of nationally-ranked doubles squads gave the Bucs a 2-1 lead with wins at the top two flights. 
  • Grace Mpassy and Martina Gledacheva prevented the doubles shutout with an 8-4 triumph at No. 3.
  • In singles, sixth-ranked Diana Bogolii made quick work of Emma Onila at the top spot, 6-3, 6-1.
  • Alina Jane's 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 shortly after put the Fighting Knights ahead in the match, but the Bucs knotted it back up with a straight-set victory at No. 2 from eighth-ranked Zuza Maciejewska.
  • The squads then traded wins again to bring the match to a 4-4 tie. Gledacheva boasted the win for the Blue & White at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1. Barry's 11th-ranked Sonja Larsen took the No. 4 matchup.
  • After winning the first set at No. 3, 20th-ranked Willig fought from behind in the second frame but couldn't catch 21st-ranked Ana Pain. Willig took care of business in the deciding set however for a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 triumph to secure the match for Lynn.


  • Lynn posted its first win over Barry since 2011. The Bucs had won the previous nine matchups entering today.

At 6-2, the Fighting Knights currently stand in third place in the SSC standings with most of the teams still having matches to complete.
