Tempe, Ariz. – The first Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis National Team Rankings of the 2018 season were released this week with Lynn University's women's tennis team being tabbed as the No. 1 team in the country.
The Fighting Knights are coming off a highly successful year that included a run to the NCAA National Championship match and a 24-3 overall record. Lynn won its NCAA South Regional bracket and posted runner-up finishes in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament and at the NCAA National Tournament.
Lynn claims the nation's No. 1 ranking for the first time since Nov. 9, 2011. Following a runner-up finish at the 2011 NCAA National Tournament, the Blue and White opened up the 2012 campaign as the preseason favorites.
Barry, winners of the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship, check in at No. 2 in the rankings, with Columbus State, Hawai'i Pacific and West Florida rounding out the top five. Flagler College (No. 6), Academy of Art (No. 7), St. Mary's (No. 8), UC San Diego (No. 9) and the University of Indianapolis (No. 10) comprise the remainder of the Top 10.
The 2018 season will introduce a new system of computerized rankings from the ITA. A national rankings panel voted on the Top 25 teams, and will do so through the month of February. The computerized rankings will then take over and debut on March 21, 2018, with national team, singles and doubles rankings.
