Women’s Tennis Continues Play at PBA; Liga & Petrackova Advance to Singles Finals

West Palm Beach, Fla. – Eleonora Liga and Eliska Petrackova will compete for singles titles tomorrow at the PBA Sailfish Invite following the Lynn University women's tennis team's showing Saturday on the second day of the tournament.

SINGLES DRAW:

#1 Singles Flight

  • Liga and Federica Mordegan each won their opening match in the top singles bracket.
  • Liga first defeated ASA College's Soomin Kim (6-3, 6-2) before taking down Saint Leo's Nina Furmaniak in the semifinals (6-3, 6-0). Liga will battle ASA's Molly Helgesson in tomorrow's championship.
  • Mordegan started the day with a 6-1, 5-7, 10-7 win over Saint Leo's Marta Vicens Miquel before falling to Helgesson in straight sets. She will play Furmaniak tomorrow for third place.

#2 Singles Flight

  • Anastacia Parkin joined Petrackova as Fighting Knights in the #2 singles draw.
  • Petrackova made quick work of Saint Leo's Anna Mariha Bukina (6-2, 6-2) then battled ASA's Tatiana Simova (3-6, 6-3, 10-4). She will face off against Saint Leo's Kristyna Jurkova in tomorrow's championship match.
  • Parkin had two close matches, but lost both in three sets. She is in tomorrow's seventh-place match.

#3 Singles Flight

  • The Blue and White did not have any representatives in the third draw.

#4 Singles Flight

  • Weronika Cichowska was taken down in straight sets in her opening match and then was forced to retire in the back draw.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Saint Leo has a player in three of the four singles championship matches tomorrow.
