Jeanjean Named Women’s Tennis ITA South Region Senior Player of the Year

Tempe, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the 2018-19 NCAA Division II regional award winners this week, with Lynn University's Leolia Jeanjean being named the women's tennis South Region Senior Player of the Year.

Jeanjean becomes the fourth player and second consecutive in program history to win the award, joining Klaudia Boczova (2018), Masha Bayser (2005) and Maria Alves (2002).

The graduate-student transfer has been racking up awards all season, being named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year to go along with All-SSC First Team accolades in singles and doubles. She was also tabbed the SSC Player of the Week a league-best four times.

Jeanjean rolled through the competition in 2019, currently holding undefeated records in both singles (20-0) and doubles (25-0).

In singles, she hasn't lost a set all season and has taken down eight nationally-ranked opponents. Jeanjean has been nationally ranked in singles all spring, currently slotted at No. 8 in the country.

Jeanjean has been even more impressive in doubles action. She is the first player in program history to win 24+ doubles matches in a season without a loss.

Seven other awards were given for the South Region with West Alabama's Jeff Beaman winning Coach of the Year, Nova Southeastern's Natalie Espinal winning Rookie of the Year, Saint Leo's Marta Vicens Miquel claiming Player to Watch and Barry's Carolin Schmidt winning Most Improved Senior -- to highlight a few.

National award winners will be announced on Tuesday, May 21, at the 2019 Division II NCAA Tennis Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
