BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University continued its struggles at its off-campus home, the Saint Andrew's School, falling to Florida Southern in straight sets 25-17, 25-16, 25-20. Abbey Brokop had a double-double in the match after dishing out 16 assists and amassing 12 digs while Angie Caple led the Fighting Knights with eight kills and four blocks. Lynn drops to 12-9 on the season and 2-7 in Sunshine State Conference play while Florida Southern improves to 17-9 and 7-3 in the SSC.
The Moccasins used an early four point run to take a 6-2 lead and control the opening set. Lynn would later tie the match at 12-12 with Caple recording a kill and a block assist in a 3-0 run, but Florida Southern would go on to score eight of the next nine points and never look back.
The second set continued the pace of the previous with LU falling behind early 7-2. The Blue & White looked poised for a comeback after a Lizzy Raffa ace brought the deficit to two, however the Moccasins responded with a pair of quick points to end the run. Caple had three blocks and three kills in the second set.
Lynn took its first lead of the day when Brokop set up Elyse Fleck for the opening point of the third set. The game would go back and forth until a 3-0 run put Florida Southern ahead 15-10. Shannon Dugan had five kills and a block in the set while Brokop added four assists, a kill and one ace.
The Fighting Knights hit the courts on Sunday, October 28, at 2 p.m. when the host Saint Leo at Grandview Preparatory.
