BOCA RATON, Fla. – Playing in its 'home' away from home for the second consecutive game, Lynn University's volleyball team struggled against Eckerd College at the Saint Andrew's School, falling straight sets 21-25, 18-25, 22-25. Shannon Dugan continued her offensive streak with a game-high 14 kills and was one dig away from a double-double. With the loss, Lynn is now 10-6 overall and 2-4 in the Sunshine State Conference while Eckerd improves to 11-6 and 5-1 in conference play.
The Fighting Knights saw early leads in all three sets but could not seal the deal in the waning moments. After giving up the first point of the match, the Blue & White took five straight to go up 5-1 and would hold the lead, 10-5, until the Tritons went on a seven point run. Eckerd would not relent the rest of the set.
Lynn was able to keep it close again in the second set before a 5-0 run put the match out of reach at 20-12 in favor of Eckerd. The final set went back and forth with neither side having a lead larger than four. However, the Tritons used its largest four-point advantage towards the end of the match to go on top 24-20.
Lynn outscored Eckerd 18-12 in the opening 10 points of the three sets.
Abbey Brokop led both sides in assists with 29 while Michelle Jordan was the leader on defense for Lynn with 11 digs. Elyse Fleck and Brokop both were involved in two assisted blocks in the match.
The Fighting Knights are on the road next weekend, traveling to central Florida for a pair of conference matches at Rollins on October 12, and at Florida Tech on the 13th. Fans can catch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com or by following @LUknights on Twitter and Instagram.
