Lakeland, Fla. – Lynn University's volleyball team saw its seven game winnnig-streak snapped at the George W. Jenkins Field House in four sets to Florida Southern 21-25, 27-25, 23-25 and 18-25 on Friday night. Lizzy Raffa and Abbey Brokop logged double-doubles while five players posted double-figures in digs. With the loss, Lynn drops to 8-2 overall and 1-1 in the Sunshine State Conference
Florida Southern (9-4,, 1-0 SSC) would lead for much of the first set until a crucial 3-0 by the Blue & White tied the game at 18-18. The two squads battled back-and-forth until FSC was able to connect on consecutive points to grab the 25-21 victory.
Angie Caple kept Lynn competitive with six kills and a .750 hitting percentage. Mandy McIntosh had six assists while Brokop and Michelle Jordan had four digs apiece.
The Fighting Knights would take their first lead of the night, 3-2, early in the second set and continue on the offensive until the Mocs tied it 7-7. The two schools matched wits until a break pushed LU ahead 14-13. Needing one point to even the match, Florida Southern clawed its way back 25-25 before Raffa smashed home a kill and Brokop and Cox blocked an attack by Kate Stromberg to pick up the win in game two.
Brittany Brown was a difference maker in the set with five kills and a block assist. Brokop produced 12 assists and Jordan paced the defense with five digs.
Brokop's carried over her magic into the start of set three with a service ace to help the Fighting Knights take an early. Unfortunately, Florida Southern was able to knot things up at 10-10. Another seesaw set had the Mocs grab a 21-19 advantage late before a 4-0 run, aided by a Dugan kill and block, gave Lynn the lead. Florida Southern responded, though, using its own 4-0 run to take the game
The Mocs rode the momentum from the third set to build a 17-10 lead. Lynn would score three straight but consecutive points by Florida Southern to put the game out of reach.
With 10 digs and 33 assists Brokop picked up her first double-double of the season. Raffa also earned her first double-double of the 2012 campaign with 10 kills and 16 digs.
