Lynn Volleyball Falls to Nationally-Ranked Tampa

BOCA RATON, Fla.—Lynn University's volleyball team could not pull the upset against fifth-ranked University of Tampa, falling 3-1 (12-25, 21-25, 15-25, 18-25). Abbey Brokop logged a double-double with 27 assists and 12 digs while Shannon Dugan added a team-high 13 kills.  With the loss the Fighting Knights record drops to 10-5 and 2-3 in the Sunshine State Conference.

Tampa (12-2, 5-0 SSC) started strong and did not let the Fighting Knights into the game with a 25-12 victory in set one.  The second set started off similarly, with three straight Spartan points but this time Lynn fought back and was able to tie the set at 15-15.

The Fighting Knights would see their first lead of the match off a bad set from Tampa before Lizzy Raffa and Caple recorded kills to give LU the advantage it would need to win the set 25-21.

Dugan led the offense with six kills while also contributing one of the Fighting Knights three services aces in the set. Abbey Brokop had nine assists and Michelle Jordan recorded four digs.

The third set started with a strong effort from the Blue & White as they scored the first three points, forcing an early Tampa timeout after a Raffa ace.  Lynn would stay competitive until Tampa pulled away with five straight points in the middle of the set en route to a 25-15 victory.

Unfortunately, the final set saw Tampa leading the majority of the way and putting the finishing touches on the Blue & White with a 25-18 victory.

Dugan was close to recording another double-double leading, chipping in eight digs to go along with her 13 kills. Raffa kept the team alive from the service line with three of Lynn's eight aces on the night.

The Fighting Knights play their second-straight home match at Saint Andrew's School, Saturday, October 6, at 4 p.m. when they host Eckerd. Fans can catch the action online at or by following @LUKnights on Twitter and Instagram.
