Volleyball Takes Fight out of Tigers

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. – Lynn University's volleyball team squashed a five-game losing streak with a defining 3-0 victory over West Alabama in the opening match of the South Region Crossover.  Angie Caple and Brianna Cox combined for 24 kills while hitting a sizzling .632 and .455 as the Fighting Knights hit a program-record .494 as a team.  Lynn improves to 11-8 overall.

The first set was all LU after West Alabama (7-11) took the first two points.  Lynn managed to go on a 6-0 run and never looked back.  Cox led all players with five kills while Shannon Dugan logged five of her match-high 11digs in helping the team to a 25-14 victory.

Set two proved to be more difficult but the Blue & White were up to the challenge.  Despite grabbing a 9-6 lead, the Tigers would eventually tie and take their first lead of the contest.  Trailing by two points, 20-18, Caple and Elyse Fleck brought Lynn back.  Fleck was outstanding in the set, hitting a perfect 1.000 on nine attempts.

With Mandy McIntosh quarterbacking the offense, Lynn was able to battle back and regain the lead.  Caple and Cox then combined on the final two points to give the Fighting Knights a 25-23 win.

Caple was the difference maker in the final set.  The match went back and forth with each team calling late time outs to recapture momentum.  The junior from Naples, Fla., recorded three of her five kills in the set over the final points to bag the third set 25-19 and complete the 3-0 sweep.

Lynn did not commit a service error in the match.  Abbey Brokop led LU with 18 assists and McIntosh added 12.  Brokop was also second on the team with seven digs.
