Milewski Earns First Collegiate Victory in Volleyball’s Season Opener

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Inside a packed de Hoernle Sports and Cultural Center on Friday night, the Lynn University volleyball team unveiled its brand new gym floor in style, sweeping Barton College 3-0 in the nightcap of the Courtyard Boca Raton Invitational and the team's 2015 season opener. The triumph marks the first career win for the Fighting Knights' new head coach, Adam Milewski.

Lynn (1-0) clinched the first two games by identical 25-17 scores, while Barton (0-2) fought back in the third until the home team closed out, 25-22.

The Blue & White starting lineup featured a mix of familiar faces and newcomers. Lydia West picked up right where she left off last season, leading the squad with nine kills and three blocks. Morgan Dulaney came out firing to tally eight kills, while Claire Angelich attacked efficiently in a seven-kill effort.

Junior-transfers Cleuza Porto and Cristina Llorens combined for 10 kills and 18 digs in their first appearances in the blue and white uniform.

Marissa Tandron guided the offense with a match-high 27 assists, while freshman Jayden Davila-McClary dished out eight in her collegiate debut. Katie Knight co-led the squad with 10 digs in her transition to the libero position.

The Courtyard Boca Raton Invitational continues all day Saturday, Sept. 5, beginning at 9 a.m. Lynn will face off with West Alabama at 11 a.m. and close out the invite against Valdosta St. at 5 p.m.
