Volleyball Cruises on Opening Day of Panther Invitational

Melbourne, Fla. – Coming off a five-set heartbreak at the conclusion of last weekend's tournament, the Lynn University volleyball team (4-1) bounced back and took care of business on Friday afternoon, posting straight-set victories over both Columbus St. (0-6) and Puerto Rico-Mayaguez (1-1) at Florida Tech's Panther Invitational.

Lynn bested Columbus St. in its opener (25-21, 25-22, 25-17) before taking down Puerto Rico-Mayaguez (25-18, 25-22, 25-23) to cap off the action.

Cristina Llorens found her offensive groove on Friday, recording match-high kill totals against both opponents. Initiated by a 14-kill (.520) performance against CSU, the junior finished the day with 24 kills and 17 digs.

Morgan Dulaney and Claire Angelich combined for 13 kills in the opener, while Lydia West threw down eight on UPRM and registered the team's two solo blocks.

Marissa Tandron dished 58 helpers on the day and contributed 12 digs. Shanotta Bawek accumulated 21 digs and Katie Knight served five aces.

The Fighting Knights close out the tournament against Albany St. tomorrow, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. To learn more about Lynn's volleyball program both on and off the court, log on to LynnFightingKnights.com. Make sure to 'Like' us on Facebook and follow @Lynn_Knights on Twitter and Instagram.
