Melbourne, Fla. – Lynn University's Cristina Llorens was selected as the Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, following the volleyball team's upset win over the top-ranked team in the country.
Llorens was the Fighting Knights' top offensive threat on Saturday as the volleyball team defeated top-ranked and defending national champions University of Tampa, snapping the Spartans' 59-match SSC winning streak. It marked the first victory for Lynn over Tampa in 38 matchups dating back to 1997.
The junior outside hitter matched her career-high with a team-best 14 kills while hitting at a .303 clip, and added a career-high four service aces. As a team, Lynn finished with 19 aces, tying the fifth most in single-match program history and the most since 2006.
Llorens had her best performance in the second set when she tallied six of her kills, including four strikes that fueled an 8-2 Lynn run to close out the frame and put her team up 2-0 in the match. She also recorded seven digs for the defense and played a critical part in limiting Tampa to only five service aces.
Earlier in the week against Nova Southeastern, the Gijon, Spain product registered nine kills with no errors for a .500 hitting percentage and added double-digit digs.
The Blue & White are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Palm Beach Atlantic. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
