Volleyball Drops Home Finale to Eckerd

BOCA RATON, Fla. – After getting off to a slow start, Lynn University's volleyball team bounced back in the third frame on Saturday against Eckerd College, but it was not enough as the Fighting Knights fell 3-1 in their final home game of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Set 1 | Lydia West and Shanotta Bawek came out of the gates with five kills on nine attacks apiece but the Fighting Knights played catch up the entire frame. A 5-1 run from Eckerd opened up a comfortable 17-9 advantage.
  • Set 2 | The Tritons hit an incredible .733 in the second set in a convincing 25-10 win.
  • Set 3 | The Blue & White bounced back in the third set led by six kills from Cleuza Porto. Katie Knight kicked off a 5-0 run from the service line early on to grab the lead for Lynn, and anchored another 7-0 run to give her side the momentum late.
  • Set 4 | Following a 15-15 tie, the Tritons went on an 8-2 run. Errors down the stretch from Lynn sealed the deal for the four-set defeat.
STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • West continued on her offensive tear of late, notching a team-high 12 kills on a .261 clip, and picking up two blocks.
  • Porto was the only other Fighting Knight to reach double figures, recording 11 kills and five digs.
  • Bawek was the most involved offensively she has been all year, finishing with season-highs in kills (9) and attacks (21).
  • Knight led the defense with a team-high 15 digs and chipped in two service aces.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • West posted double-digit kills for the fourth consecutive match and the fifth time in the last six.
  • Lynn recorded under 44 digs for the first time in the last 15 matches.
