West Tabbed SSC Offensive Player of the Week

Melbourne, Fla. – After a career night on Tuesday in a win over Nova Southeastern, Lydia West of the Lynn University volleyball team has garnered Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Monday.

West was the driving force behind the offense this week as the Fighting Knights went 2-0 on the road in SSC play. She led the Blue and White with 34 kills, averaging 4.86 per set, and hit an impressive .443 throughout two matches.

In a 3-1 win at Nova Southeastern, West was the focal point of the offense as the redshirt-senior exploded for a career-high 25 kills with a .413 attack percentage. West's 25 kills is the most in a single match from a Fighting Knight in over five years. She followed up with another efficient performance in a 3-0 sweep at Florida Tech where the Blue and White snapped a four-year skid in Melbourne, totaling nine kills at a .513 attack clip. West is currently third in the league in hitting percentage for the season and 10th in kills per set.

The Port St. Lucie, Fla., product also had a big week defensively, leading the front row with eight blocks at 1.14 per set (four solo, four assisted). Her solo block against the Panthers marked the 57th of her career, giving her the second most solo blocks in the program's history despite being in the midst of just her third year of competition.

West secures the first SSC weekly accolade of the season for the Fighting Knights.

The Blue and White are back at it Tuesday, Nov. 1 with a 7 p.m. matchup at Barry University.
