Volleyball Signs Four to 2017 Squad

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University head volleyball coach Adam Milewski has announced a quartet of incoming freshmen who will join the Fighting Knights for the 2017 campaign. Lauren Odom, Andrea McDonald, Jaja Perkins and Danessa Martin will don the Blue and White next year in hopes of filling the voids left from a large 2016 graduating class.

"The 2017 class is filled with extremely talented student-athletes," Milewski said. "Each one of them has excelled on and off the court and are a perfect fit for what we are building here at Lynn. Three of these players come to us from the Orlando Tampa Volleyball Academy (OTVA), which is one of the premier clubs in the country. Lauren, Andrea and Jaja have all had an opportunity to play with and against each other and we're expecting the chemistry they form to carry over to the fall. I'm thrilled for all four to be joining the Fighting Knight family."

Lauren Odom
Freshman | Middle Blocker
Tampa, Fla. / Cambridge Christian School

Odom is a 6-foot-2 middle blocker hailing from Tampa, Fla. She played her first three years of high school volleyball at Steinbrenner High alongside fellow Fighting Knight middle, Elna Argen, before heading to Cambridge Christian for her senior campaign. Odom was a first team all-conference and all-county selection in 2015 while compiling 275 kills, 145 blocks and a .451 hitting percentage over her sophomore and junior seasons. She is a member of OTVA, playing her club ball for OT 18 Tampa Rox Red.

From the Coach: "Lauren is going to be an impact player for us in 2017. She has the rare combination of size and agility. More importantly she is a great kid and a relentless competitor. Lauren comes from a family of talented athletes that have undoubtedly shaped her will to get better every day."

Andrea (Ande) McDonald
Freshman | Libero/Defensive Specialist
Bradenton, Fla. / Lakewood Ranch High School

A teammate of Odom's on the OT 18 Tampa Rox Red, McDonald is a defensive specialist inside the gym and out on the beach. She led the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs to the state finals along with back-to-back district championships and a regional title in 2014. McDonald was an all-area honorable mention selection and was voted best defensive player three years in a row. Also a star out on the trails, McDonald was a four-year state finalist in cross country and was named the runner of the year in 2015.

From the Coach: "Ande's a spark plug! She has great energy on the court and is one of the top defenders in the state at the high school level. Andrea's an elite athlete and will compete right away for time on the court. I'm looking forward to watching her grow this club season."

Jaja Perkins
Freshman | Right Side
Altamonte Springs, Fla. / Home School

Another OTVA product, Perkins is a 5-foot-9 opposite hitter from Altamonte Springs, Fla. Perkins currently represents the OT 17 Tampa Rox Red, but was a teammate of McDonald's last year on the 17 Tampa Asics Red. In 2014-15 with TBVA, the south paw won back-to-back AAU Open National Championships and was named to the all-tournament team in 2014. Although home schooled, Perkins competed for the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers as a freshman in 2014.

From the Coach: "Jaja will bring a high level of offense to our team next season. She's extremely quick and explosive and has the ability to be a six-rotation player for us in the future. Jaja has shown her versatility and power at the high school and club level and we can't wait for her to get on campus in August."

Danessa Martin
Freshman | Libero/Defensive Specialist
Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area Senior High School

Lynn's only out-of-state recruit, Martin will head to Boca from south central Pennsylvania. The 5-foot-4 libero plays high school volleyball for the Chambersburg Area Trojans where she was a two-time Mid-Penn Conference Honorable Mention selection and is a member of the Revolution Volleyball Club's Chambersburg 18 White squad. Martin played her first two years of high school volleyball at Mercersburg Academy where she voted MVP and team captain both seasons.

From the Coach: "Danessa really impressed us this summer during one of our camps. She's relentless and has a motor that seems to keep going forever. Her personality and play clicked with the staff right away and we're very happy to add her to our 2017 class."
