Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.- Lynn University's cross country team returned to action on Saturday afternoon at the Westminster Academy Collegiate Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern University. Sarah Northup placed seventh overall to lead the Fighting Knights on the hilly five kilometer course. Lynn placed fourth out of the field of five teams and logged a team average of 23:21.18.
Northup clocked a 20:39.19 to finish seventh overall and fourth amongst Division II athletes. Cydney Schmidt finished second for Lynn with a 5k time of 21:27.26 good for 12th overall. Rebecca Matthews finished inside the top-25 in 23rd place with a 23:06.11 time in her second race of the season. Missy Montgomery ran a 24:34.78 and Aliye Muhammad-Menzies clocked 26:58.54 to finish fourth and fifth respectively for Lynn.
Gabrielle Hesslau of the University of Miami won with a time of 19:40.75 while Nova Southeastern won as a team with 25 total points and three Sharks in the top-5. Lynn finished second out of Division II schools and will return to action at the Sunshine State Conference Championships November 8.
