Phone: (561) 237-7170

Chris Wood was announced as the Lynn University head cross country coach and the school’s first director of sports performance on February 11, 2016.  He was later named the head coach for the women's track program on June 22, 2016.  Wood brings over nine years of cross country and 13 years of strength and conditioning experience to the Fighting Knights.

In his first year at the helm of the program Wood took the program to new heights, with the team finishing in the top-10 in four of its five meets. Under his oversight he has already helped runners set program top times, clocking in two 5K and three 6K top-10 all-time marks. For the first time in school history he also brought a team to the NCAA South Regional, where they finished in 16th place overall.

As director of sports performance, Wood will manage nutrition and strength and condition as well as develop initiatives to increase the speed, strength and agility of student-athletes across Lynn’s 14 intercollegiate athletic programs.

Wood will also oversee the Fighting Knights’ cross country program, which has achieved great success since the program was re-established in 2012.  The Blue & White had runners qualify for the NCAA South Regional in each of their first three seasons and saw former runner Gabriella Wuyke advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2013.

Wood arrives in Boca Raton following two years at Pfeiffer University where he started the Falcons program from scratch for the 2014-15 season.  During his tenure, Wood oversaw the development of two-time All-Conference Carolinas selection Kylie Spencer while helping lead the Falcons to consecutive NCAA Regional appearances.  In addition, Pfeiffer was honored with the Conference Carolinas Fall Team Sportsmanship Award.

He previously ran the track & field and cross country programs for over two seasons at Husson University in Bangor, Maine.  Wood increased his roster size in his two years and was responsible for coaching jumps, javelin and sprints/hurdles. He also designed and implemented a comprehensive sports performance program for 18 athletic teams. He guided the women’s cross country team to the North Atlantic Conference Championship in 2011 and 2012 and was the runner up in 2013.

Prior to his time at Husson, Wood was the strength and conditioning coordinator and assistant track and field coach at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., from 2007-2011. He oversaw the operations of the fitness center and created an online interface for student-athletes to get exercise program information. He coached combined events, javelin, and jumps, while also teaching five courses.

Wood also spent time at LaSalle University as the assistant strength and conditioning coach.  He spent 2003-2005 at Temple University where he was promoted from a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Olympic Sports.

A graduate of Temple University with a Master of Education and Bachelor of Exercise Science from the University of Puget Sound, Wood is certified at the level of 2 with USTFCCCA (the collegiate governing body for XC/TF), USATF and USA Weightlifting as well as holds a CSCS and was named the North Atlantic Conference Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2012.
