Box Score Boca Raton, Fla.- Lynn University's baseball team earned its third straight victory with a 5-0 win over Dominican College. The Fighting Knights advance to 11-6 overall and were led offensively by Ryan Lashley and Chris Piperno who both went three-for-four at the plate while Alex Freedman went one-for-three with a two-run homerun. Kentrail Pierce (3-1) went six complete innings on the mound for LU allowing just four hits and no runs.
A one-out double down the left field line for Kamm Washington set up Ryan Lashley in the bottom of the first inning. After battling back from a 0-2 count Lashley homered to deep left field to give the Blue and White a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the seventh inning after a lead-off walk from Jacob Ostroff, Eric Pfefer came in to relieve Kentrail Pierce. After walking the first batter he faced, Pfefer struck out Leonardo Bravo, swinging. A double steal for the Chargers would set runners at second and third with one out. Piperno threw out Nick Delgado at third base on a bunt from Dylan Ebel to put two away. A fly out to right center field would end the inning for Dominican leaving two runners on.
An infield single in the bottom of the seventh inning from Piperno would place a runner on first with one out. Alex Freedman went yard for the first time this season to score two more Fighting Knights runs. Caleb Whitely came in to relieve Jordan Paszek, who went six and a third innings allowing four runs on seven hits, all earned. Whitely walked his first faced batter Enrique Perez on a five pitch at bat. Washington singled up the middle to advance Perez to second. A single to left field from Lashley, followed a fielding error by Tony Blake would advance the runners an extra base and plate Perez for the third run of the inning.
The Chargers threatened in the top of the eighth inning after a two-out walk, followed by a hit by pitch, and another walk to load the bases. Kyle Butcher came in the relieve Kevin Lee, who took the mound in the beginning of the inning. A ground ball to Alex Freedman would end the inning as he would throw to Ryan Carmona at second base to get the lead runner out on the force.
Lynn went on to secure the 5-0 victory after a one-two-three top of the ninth inning. Pierce earned the win while striking out five batters in his six innings of work. Paszek was hit with his first loss of the season for the Chargers. Lashley and Freedman both hit two-run home runs while Piperno scored a run and reached safely in three at bats.
