BOCA RATON, Fla. – Senior
Luna Mertins and graduate student
Helga Fodor combined for five wins to lead the Lynn University men's and women's swimming teams against nationally-ranked Tampa, Saturday. On the women's side, No. 2 Tampa defeated No. 16 Lynn, 159-103, while the Fighting Knight men lost to No. 5 Tampa, 231-31.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Lynn women posted seven wins against the Spartans
- Mertins was a perfect 3-for-3 in individual events, winning the 100 (56:32) and 200-yard butterfly (2:09.34), while touching the wall first in the 200 IM (2:10.15)
- Fodor picked up two wins and a runner-up showing in her three individual events. She won the 100 (52.24) and 200-yard freestyle (1:54.66) and tossed in second place in the 50 freestyle (24.42)
- Mertins and Fodor, joined graduate students
Karolina Smylek and
Claudia Porta for a win in the 200 medley relay in 1:47.11
- Sophomore
Mathilde Bartolini earned a win in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:17.88, defeating teammate
Shachaf Bachar who finished in second place with a 5:18.02
- Bachar also captured third place in the 200 freestyle in 1:57.56
- Smylek added a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 (59.30) and 200 backstrokes (2:09.77)
- Porta finished in second in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.85) and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.17)

Kynda Green closed the meet with second place in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:38.47

Georgi Tsurev had a hand in both second-place finishes for the men
- Individually, he captured runner-up in the 100 backstroke (53.07) and added third place in the 200 backstroke (1:56.11)
- Tsurev was joined by teammates

Malek Masmoudi and senior
Dalton Brown for second place in the 400-yard freestyle in 3:09.70. Entering the final lap, the Fighting Knights were third before Brown surged past Tampa's Melker Olsson to put Lynn into second place
- Masmoudi collected three fourth-place finishes in the 100 (48.13), 500 (4:53.41) and 1,000 freestyles (10:00.19)
- Sophomore
Kamil Piotrowicz posted third in the 100 breaststroke (59.57), fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.86) and fifth in the 200 IM (2:06.87)
- Brown took home fourth in the 50 freestyle (22.54), while Chan Quee Lin was fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:47.24)

Mike Sickels finished in fourth place in the 200 medley relay in 1:37.03
