Tapia, Kostin guide Lynn to road wins over Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Luz Tapia won the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle to help the Lynn women's swimming team defeat Florida Tech 149-112, Thursday. The Fighting Knight women are now 2-1 in the Sunshine State Conference.

The men defeated the Panthers 147-115 as Vitaly Kostin won the 200 and 500 freestyle and was part of a winning relay squad in the 400 medley. The men are also 2-1 in the SSC.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Women):
- Lynn took the top three spots in the 200 freestyle, with Luz Tapia winning (1:52.37), Malaika Schneider placing second (1:57.31) and Shachaf Bachar in third (1:58.00)
- Tapia won the 100 freestyle in 51.89 and later won the 500 freestyle (5:12.29) by over 12 seconds for her second and third wins of the day
- Mariele De Santis won the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.51 and later won the 200 backstroke in 2:01.86
- De Santis, Schneider, Ally Webster and Lexi Lundell finished in second in the 400 yard medley (3:53.16)
- Lundell (first place – 1:07.76) and Maggie Morse (second place – 1:09.24) combined for 13 points with the top two finishes in the 100 breaststroke
- Lydia Douthit (2:07:00) and Webster (2:08.92) had the top two times in the 200 butterfly
- Douthit won again in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.58
- Webster (2:25.53) and Lundell (2:28.51) took first and second in the 200 breaststroke
- Julia Delaney swam the 1650 freestyle in 18:35.51 for second place
- De Santis finished second in the 100 IM with a time of 1:00.89
- Tapia, Lily Drons, Katie Laferriere and Schneider raced the 400 freestyle relay in 3:33.85 for second place
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Men):
- Paul Melcer, Max Tsyfarov, Vitaly Kostin and Maurice Grabowski won the 400 yard medley relay (3:23.48)
- Tsyfarov won the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.22 and the 100 IM in 51.36
- Kostin won the 200 freestyle by nearly a second in 1:39.16 and later edged out his opponents in the 500 freestyle (4:39.46) for another win
- Melcer topped all swimmers in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.98
- Lynn had the top four times in the 100 breaststroke, with Ryan Zasas placing the top time of 56.73, followed by Russell Hart (59.24), Joseph Cirame (1:01.55) and Paul Warnagiris (1:02.45)
- Zasas topped all swimmers in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:05.07 time
- Grabowski won the 50 freestyle in 20.91 and took second in the 100 butterfly at 52.43
- Kamil Geisner took first in the 200 backstroke (1:54.31) and swam the 200 butterfly in 1:55.80 for a second place finish
- Grabowski, Kostin, Jack Budd and Tsyfarov swam the 400 freestyle relay in 3:05.54 for a second place finish
