Tapia shines as Lynn splits road meet with FSC

LAKELAND, Fla. - Luz Tapia won three individual events to lead the No. 10 Lynn University women's swimming team to their third Sunshine State Conference win after defeating Florida Southern College 174–86 on Friday afternoon.
 
Vitaly Kostin, Ryan Zasas and Kamil Geisner each earned individual victories for the men's team in a 169–93 loss to the Mocs.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Women):
- Lynn's A Team claimed first place in the 400 yard medley relay (3:51.14), anchored by standout performances from Laura Dekoninck, Malaika Schneider, Luna Mertins, and Tapia  
- Mariele De Santis, Lexi Lundell, Ally Webster, and Katie Laferriere represented Lynn's B Team and placed third in the same event (3:54.79) 
- Julia Delaney claimed third place (11:04.78) in the 1000 yard freestyle, while Olivia Sherlock finished fifth (11:55.48) 
- In the 200 freestyle Tapia took first place (1:55.07), followed by Shachaf Bachar in 3rd (1:59.10) and Krystina Zavalaga in 4th (2:01.13) 
- Mertins topped the podium in the 100 backstroke (58.09) Alexis Mihok came in third (1:01.72), and Zoey Delaney placed 5th (1:05.33) 
- Schneider took first (1:05.44) in 100 breaststroke, Lundell finished right behind her (1:06.41), and Maggie Morse rounded out the event in 4th (1:09.31) 
- In the 200 yard butterfly De Santis led the way with a first-place finish (2:05.22) with Lydia Douthit who closely followed in second (2:05.48) and Webster in fifth position (2:11.82) 
- Dekoninck claimed 2nd place (24.61) in the 50 yard freestyle while Lily Drons finished 4th (25.22) 
- Schneider earned her second individual win (52.79) in the 100 free with Dekoninck placing third (53.94) 
- De Santis continued her strong meet with another first place finish (2:04.44) in the 200 back, Alexis Mihok came in fourth (2:18.98), and Delaney finished fifth (2:21.65) 
- Lynn dominated the 200 yard breaststroke event with a first-place finish from Lundell (2:24.51), Webster followed in second (2:28.56) and Morse in third (2:28.73) 
- Tapia captured her third win of the day after she finished first (5:12.15) in the 500 free. Bachar took fourth (5:22.69), and Delaney finished 5th (5:27.66) 
- Mertins earned her second individual victory with a 57.48 time in the 100 yard butterfly; Douthit placed 2nd (57.59) while Drons finished 5th (1:01.47) 
- De Santis continued her dominance with a third first-place finish of the day in the 200 yard IM (2:08.89); Webster took second (2:09.60), and Morse placed 6th (2:20.06) 
- Lynn's A Team (Tapia, Schneider, Lundell, and Dekoninck) won the final event of the afternoon with a time of 1:35.71 in the 200 free relay  
- Team B finished (Mihok, Laferriere and Drons) placed third in the event with a time of 1:40.56 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Men):
- Lynn's A Team of Paul Melcer, Max Tsyfarov, Kostin, and Maurice Grabowski finished third with a time of 3:24.45 in the 400 yard medley relay 
- Eli Spivak placed third with a time of 10:00.29 in the 1000 yard freestyle with Andrew Schmidt having finished in fifth position (10:29.11), and Drew Shayka came in sixth (10:38.54) 
- Tsyfarov took third place with a time of 1:45.55 in the 200 free with Cole Faikish following just behind him in fourth (1:45.67) 
- Paul Melcer secured third place with a time of 50.75 in the 100 yard backstroke and Mike Sickels finished in sixth position (55.77) 
- Zasas led the Fighting Knights with a second-place finish (57.18) in the 100 yard breaststroke, followed by Kamil Piotrowicz in third (57.88) and Russell Hart in sixth (1:01.85) 
- Kostin claimed first place with a time of 1:54.02 in the 200 yard butterfly, Geisner took third (1:55.72), and Owen Pogwist placed seventh (2:04.62) 
- Grabowski finished third with a time of 21.25 in the 50 free while Spencer Hobbs placed sixth (21.72) and Patrick Deevy followed in seventh (21.86) 
- Tsyfarov placed third with a time of 46.80 in the 100 yard freestyle 
- Geisner claimed first place with a time of 1:53.83 in the 200 yard backstroke 
- Zasas and Piotrowicz finished pole positions in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with Zasas claiming top of the leaderboard with a time of 2:07.90 and Piotrowicz came in third (2:10.41) 
- Kostin delivered another win, finishing first with a time of 4:40.54 in the 500 yard freestyle 
- Geisner placed second in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 51.52 
- Tsyfarov led the Fighting Knights with a first-place finish (1:55.76) in the 200 Yard Individual Medley 
- Lynn's A Team of Grabowski, Deevy, Hobbs, and Kostin finished second with a time of 1:24.08 in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay 
- Team B placed fourth (1:28.46) consisting of Zasas, Spivak, Faikish and Piotrowicz

The Fighting Knights will continue their SSC campaign at the McCusker Pool Complex as they host Tampa and Barry on Saturday Jan. 18 at 10:00 am
