Malfitano officially inducted into Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A cornerstone of Lynn University's history and success, longtime administrator Gregory Malfitano was officially inducted into the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame on Saturday afternoon at Barry University, where the league celebrated the 10 inductees of its 2025 class.Malfitano_HoF25 1

Malfitano's enshrinement marks another milestone in a career that has spanned more than five decades at Lynn. Since beginning his tenure in 1972, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the university's growth and the success of its athletic programs. Serving as the administrator overseeing athletics from 1987-2015, Malfitano guided the Fighting Knights through an era of unprecedented achievement, capturing 23 of the program's 27 national championships during his leadership.

His vision transformed Lynn's campus recreation and intramural sports of the 1980s into one of the region's premier intercollegiate athletics programs. Under his direction, Lynn secured membership in the NAIA, Sunshine State Conference, and ultimately NCAA Division II. He oversaw the recruitment of every athletics director and head coach through 2015, laying the foundation for sustained excellence across all sports.

With Malfitano at the helm, Lynn earned three Mayors' Cups, awarded annually to the top overall athletic programs in the SSC, along with 23 SSC regular-season titles and 11 SSC tournament championships. The Fighting Knights also achieved consistent national recognition in the Learfield Directors' Cup standings during his tenure.

Malfitano's impact has been celebrated within the Lynn community as well. He was inducted into the Lynn University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024 and received the Lynn University Distinguished Alumni Award- an honor that has since been renamed in his recognition.

Established in 1991, the SSC Hall of Fame honors individuals who have brought distinction, honor, and excellence to the league. Malfitano joins an elite group of 223 inductees, a testament to his enduring influence on both Lynn University and the Sunshine State Conference.
