ORLANDO, Fla. - Lynn University's
Mariele De Santis has been named the Sunshine State Conference Swimmer of the Week, earning the first SSC weekly honor of her career after a dominant and versatile showing at the NSU Duals. The award also marks the first weekly recognition for the Lynn women's team this season.
De Santis emerged as one of Lynn's top performers across the two-day meet, delivering four top-two individual finishes, including an NCAA B-cut time in the 200 butterfly, and contributing on relay duty to anchor the Knights through one of their most competitive weekends of the fall thus far. She opened Friday night with a commanding win in the 200 butterfly, hitting a B-cut in the low 2:03 range to lead a Lynn 1-2 finish.
On Saturday, De Santis continued her strong form with a wire-to-wire victory in the 200 backstroke (2:04.06) before adding a pair of second-place finishes in two of the meet's most demanding races, the 400 IM (4:33.27) and the 200 IM (2:06.79). She also provided key depth on relays, swimming on the 400 medley relay B-team, which delivered valuable early points to open the session.
With two victories, four top-two finishes, and a B-cut time against elite competition, De Santis' breakout performance firmly establishes her as one of the Sunshine State Conference's dominant rising stars.
De Santis and the Lynn swim teams will be back in action on Nov. 20 when the Fighting Knights head to Indianapolis to compete in the House of Champions meet hosted by IU Indy.
