Mertins sets NCAA record in 100 Free, secures second National Championship of 2025

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Graduate Luna Mertins finished the 2025 NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships in stellar fashion, locking down her second individual National Championship of the 2025 meet in the 100 Free with a record-setting time of 48.07.

Mertins has now collected four total National Championships in her tenure at Lynn, picking up wins in the 100 Free, the 100 Fly in 2022 and 2025 as well as contributing to the 200 Medley Relay victory in 2024.

The Lynn women finished the 2025 Championship in fifth with 233 points, edging out Tampa in sixth by 13 points. The men of Lynn finished tied for tenth with Florida Southern at 152 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Mertins kicked off the event in championship fashion, beating out the competition in the 100 Free by a full .53.
Mertins is now a 23-time First Team All-American and a 28-time All-American following the National Championships.
Maurice Grabowski made a splash in the 100 Free, placing runner-up with an SSC-record setting time of 42.59 for another First Team All-American nod.
The team of Luz Tapia, Laura Dekoninck, Malaika Schneider and Mertins closed out the Championships with a third-place finish in the 400 Free Relay with a school record time of 3:19.86.
Dekoninck earned Second Team All-American honors finishing 12th in the 100 Free (50.14).
Schneider finished the 100 Free in 22nd place (50.73).
Mariele De Santis finished 20th in the 200 Back prelims (2:01.14).
Kamil Geisner finished the 200 Back prelims in 18th (1:45.62).
Lexi Lundell earned Second Team All-American honors in the 200 Breast, putting in a time of 2:17.76.
Ryan Zazas placed 17th in the 200 Breast prelims, finishing in 1:59.28.
Max Tsyfarov, Vitaly Kostin, Spencer Hobbs and Grabowski finished the 400 Free Relay in 10th with a final time of 2:56.12.
