Mertins named SSC Swimmer of the Year

MELBOURNE, Fla.- Graduate Luna Mertins was named the Sunshine State Conference Swimmer of the Year, announced by the league office on Tuesday. Just last week, Mertins was named the CSCAA National Swimmer of the Year following a spectacular showing at the NCAA championship. The Friedberg, Germany native won two individual national titles, set two NCAA Division II Records, owns five conference records, and was named the 2025 Swimmer of the Meet at the SSC Championships. Mertins joins Rebecca Matthews (2014-15 & 2015-16) as the most recent Fighting Knight to be named conference Swimmer of the Year.
 
Mertins took home individual national titles in the 100 Fly and 100 Free, setting NCAA D2 records in both events. She also finished second in the 100 Back and third in the 50 Free at the NCAA Championships. She holds SSC records in all four events as well as the 200 Free Relay. Mertins and the Lynn women's swim team finished the NCAA Championships with a fifth place finish.
 
Mertins has collected four total National Championships in her tenure at Lynn, picking up wins in the 100 Free and the 100 Fly (2022 and 2025) as well as contributing to the 200 Medley Relay victory in 2024. She is a 28-time All-American and a 23-time first team All-American.
