Luna Mertins has been named the 2024-25 NCAA Academic All-America women's swimming & diving Team Member of the Year for Division II as announced by the College Sports Communicators today. Mertins was named the representative for Division II after garnering Academic All-America honors three times over her career including earning First Team honors for the 2024-25 season.

Mertins boasts a 3.93 GPA and majors in clinical mental health counseling. She is one of 14 repeat selections on the DII team after she captured Second Team honors a year ago and First Team honors in 2022-23.

Back in March, Mertins won two individual national titles at the 2025 NCAA Championship, shattering NCAA records in the 100-yard butterfly in 51.78 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 48.07 seconds. Mertins placed second in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 50-yard freestyle. The Sunshine State Conference and CSCAA Women's Swimmer of the Year holds the conference records in all four events as well as the 200-yard freestyle.

A native of Friedberg, Germany, Mertins finished her career with four national titles, winning the 100-yard freestyle in 2022 and was a part of the 200-yard medley relay in 2024. She also racked up 28 All-American nods with 23 of them being First Team selections to earn the title of the most decorated swimmer in Lynn history. She was also named a finalist for the coveted DII Honda Athlete of the Year award, which is set to be announced in June.
