Biography

Senior (2017-18): Finished the year ranked No. 6 in the nation for singles, repeating as an ITA All-American...repeated as an All-Sunshine State Conference Singles First Team selection...after entering the singles national rankings on March 21 at the No. 8 spot, Mateo held within the nation's top-11 throughout the final eight polls of the year with a high mark of No. 5 and a final ranking of No. 6...posted a 16-4 record in singles play between the top-two flights, going 7-1 in SSC contests…led the team in singles victories…went 12-8 in doubles play, finishing 6-1 in conference…shined bright in big moments, amassing a 7-3 singles record against nationally-ranked opponents…collected a 10-match win streak during the season…his marquee victory came in the NCAA South Region II Final, where he upset Saint Leo's Thomas Grinberg, the top-ranked player in the country and SSC Player of the Year, to give his squad a 5-4 victory and a berth to the NCAA National Championships...closes out his career with an impressive 52-5 singles record, marking one of the highest winning percentages in program history (91.2%).

Junior (2016-17): 
Named a CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American, the second-ever in program history and the first since 1996...claimed ITA All-America status in singles, finishing the year ranked 11th in the country...nationally-ranked in singles the entire season, reaching as high as No. 5...named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Singles First Team...boasted a perfect 23-0 singles record, the only Fighting Knight to tally 23 singles wins in a season since Lynn joined the NCAA in 1997...secured 20 of his singles victories at the No. 2 position with three at the top flight while winning all seven matchups against nationally-ranked opponents...7-0 in SSC singles play...finished with a 20-6 doubles record, primarily at the No. 3 flight, tying for the team-lead in doubles victories...13-4 in doubles with Tristan Houle and 5-0 with Jose Porfirio...4-3 in SSC doubles action...didn't lose a set in singles until the 20th match of the season...clinched the 5-4 victory over No. 3 Saint Leo in the SSC semifinals (4/21) with a come-from-behind 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-1) win over 45th-ranked Vincent Suillerot at No. 2 singles...earned SSC Commissioner Honor Roll recognition for earning a 3.2 grade point average or better...named an ITA Scholar-Athlete.

Sophomore (2015-16): Posted an impressive 13-1 singles record during his first season with the Fighting Knights, playing at the No. 3, 4 & 5 positions...won the first 13 singles matches of his Lynn career...recorded a 12-4 mark in doubles, going 2-1 at the top flight and 10-3 at No. 2...his 12 victories in doubles tied for the third-most on the squad...earned SSC Commissioner Honor Roll recognition for earning a 3.2 grade point average or better. 

Freshman (2013-14): Was a VCU Ram as a freshman in 2013-14, going 15-7 in singles and 10-8 in doubles action.

Personal: Born August 5, 1993...majoring in business...enjoys soccer and his favorite team is Olympique de Marseille.
