Compliance Boosters

Lynn University Athletics Department Boosters

Maintaining NCAA compliance as a department and university is an exercise in teamwork. As a booster, you play an important role in not only helping us achieve continued success, but also ensuring that Lynn University remains NCAA compliant. We value your commitment to both.

Who is a Booster?

Per NCAA bylaws, an individual triggers the status of booster if one or more of the following criteria is met.

  • Has participated in or is a member of an agency or organization, including corporate entities, promoting the institution’s intercollegiate athletics program;
  • Has made financial contributions to the athletics department or to an athletics booster organization of that institution;
  • Has been requested by the athletics department staff to assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes or is assisting in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes;
  • Has assisted or is assisting in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families; or
  • Is otherwise involved in promoting the institution's athletics program.

Once a booster, always a booster!

Who is a Prospect/Prospective Student-Athlete?

A prospective student-athlete (PSA) is a student who has started classes for the ninth grade. In addition, a student who has not started classes for the ninth grade becomes a PSA if the institution provides such an individual (or the individual's relatives or friends) any financial assistance or other benefits that the institution does not provide to prospective students generally.

What CAN you Do as a Booster?

  • Contact coaches about potential future Fighting Knights in the area!
  • Observe a PSA’s competitions, as long as you do not make contact with the PSA, the PSA’s parents/relatives, or the PSA’s coach or principal.
  • Provide current student-athletes with an occasional meal – and provide reasonable, local transportation for that meal -  as long as the meal is approved by the Athletics Compliance Office and takes place in your home, on Lynn’s campus, or in a facility regularly used for home competitions.
  • Speak with a recruit about Lynn University in general, so long as the recruit initiates the conversation and you do not discuss specifics about the athletics department.

What CAN’T you Do as a Booster?

  • Engage in any recruiting contact with a PSA or his or her parents or legal guardians.
  • Contact a PSA’s coach, principal, and/or guidance counselor to evaluate the PSA.
  • Provide extra benefits to PSAs, current student-athletes, or their families and friends. Extra benefits include:
    • Free or discounted products or services (unless available to the general public or student body)
    • Loans of money
    • An automobile or the use of an automobile
  • Communicate with a PSA via social media.
  • Use the name or picture of current student-athlete to directly endorse, advertise, or promote a product or service.
