Robert Overby brings more than 20 years of experience as both a coach and athlete to Lynn University. Known for his passion, energy, and athlete-centered approach, Coach Overby prioritizes understanding the unique needs of his student-athletes. He emphasizes individualized training over one-size-fits-all models, while focusing on effort, skill development, and life lessons that promote long-term success both on and off the track.

In his first season at Florida National University, Overby played a pivotal role in leading the men’s team to a third-place finish at the USCAA Track & Field National Championship. His efforts, alongside Ryan Raposo and Anne Lambert, earned the staff the title of USCAA Men’s Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year.

Under his leadership, FNU’s men’s and women’s teams excelled academically as well, recording GPAs of 3.40 and 3.46, with three athletes recognized as NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athletes. Overby also helped FNU host its first Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Track & Field Championship, where the program set two school records, claimed 12 event titles, recorded 17 personal bests, and secured seven runner-up finishes.

Committed to redefining what success means in athletics, Overby fosters strong communication and relationships with his athletes. His athletes have consistently thrived under his guidance—breaking school records, earning state qualifications, and competing at national championships at both the high school and collegiate levels.

Prior to FNU, Overby served as an assistant coach at Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Fla., where he specialized in sprints and relays. He also held multiple head coaching positions at South Florida high schools, building competitive and successful programs.

As an athlete, Overby was an all-conference collegiate performer who later qualified for the USA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies with a specialization in literature and humanities from Barry University and is a certified USATF Level 1 coach.
