Melbourne, Fla. - Lynn University's Max Herbert was named the Sunshine State Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Herbert tallied two assists in the Fighting Knights upset victory over No. 15 Florida Tech.
Needing a victory to keep hopes of a SSC title alive, the senior midfielder helped give the Fighting Knights the early 1-0 lead against the Panthers when Tomer Bitton headed home his free kick 19 minutes into the match. After Florida Tech knotted the game 1-1 midway in the second half, Herbert was able to earn the game-winning assist in the 79th minute as Lukas Hombach headed home his corner kick from the right flag post.
The Ascot, England, native recorded his first multi-assist game of the season, second of his career and first since September 1, 2017. Herbert now has a career-high six assists, which also puts him tied for third in the SSC.
Lynn battles nationally-ranked Nova Southeastern in the regular season finale on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. The winner has a chance for the top-seed and SSC regular season crown while the loser could fall to as far as the No. 4 seed. Fans can watch the action live at LynnFightingKnights.com.
