Women’s Basketball Tames Saint Leo to Open 2019

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University women's basketball team used its stifling defense to down the Lions of Saint Leo University 67-50 in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) play, improving its record to 8-0 at home in 2018-19.   The Fighting Knights' 9-1 mark to start the season is their best since 2006-07.

  • Kelsi Fizer, whom was named SCC Defensive Player of the Week earlier on Wednesday, posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds to lead the scoring effort.

  • Juju Uloma delivered a spark off the bench, scoring eight points in 11 minutes of action.

  • Dani Lozzi added nine points, stuffing the stat sheet with a team-high four steals and adding three rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

  • Janay Williams added nine points and eight boards for a Lynn bench which totaled 30 of the team's 67 points.

  • The Blue and White held Saint Leo to just 26.5 percent shooting from the field, including 6-of-32 from distance.

  • Lynn shot 44.6% from the field and 66.7% at the free-throw line. 


  • Lynn led for 34:04 of the game's 40 minutes, taking the lead with 26 seconds left in the first quarter and never looking back.

  • The Fighting Knights' six blocks is a season-high and is the most since swatting seven shots against Florida Tech on Jan. 31, 2018.

  • This is the fourth consecutive game Lynn has held its opponent under 60 points.

  • 11 different Fighting Knights scored in the contest.

  • The win extends Lynn's winning streak to five straight. 

Lynn continues its conference slate on Saturday, Jan. 5, traveling to Lakeland to take on Florida Southern for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
